The Mexia Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is a citizen volunteer group appointed by the Mexia City Council. We are a not-for-profit (4B) Economic Development Corporation funded by a voter approved one half-cent dedicated sales tax. MEDC recognizes the need to attract business and industry and actively promotes the area to new and expanding businesses. MEDC also acts in an advisory capacity to City Council in matters concerning economic development projects, including financial incentives.

We promote Mexia, Texas which is a fast growing community in east central Texas. This growth is only expected to intensify in the years to come due to the influx of population and convenient location. Within a few hours of the top 3 major cities in Texas along with ease of access and "hometown" feel - make Mexia, Texas poised for growth.

What we do.

MEDC is focused to increase quality of life for our community through richer job opportunities that come from commercial and industrial development; diverse options in retail, restaurant, and service providers; and investment in the community that will improve the standard of living for all of our residents. MEDC works collaboratively with the private sector to develop high quality, sustainable commercial development.

MEDC provides long range guidance and encouragement to existing and expanding businesses which have been the strength of Mexia for many years. Looked upon as a marketing arm of the city, MEDC is ready and eager to assist existing businesses in expanding in this area which is ripe for development.

Arthur “Chunky” Busby, President

Education and other credentials: Graduate of Wortham High School, Navarro College, and Navarro College Police Academy

Arthur, more commonly known as Chunky, served his community as a Peace Officer for 15 years prior to working as a lease operator with XTO Energy over the last 14 years.

Chunky has been very involved with the City of Mexia for over 20 years by being elected to serve on Mexia City Council. He is also a former Board Member for the Mexia Area Chamber of Commerce where he is still an active member of the Rodeo Committee. He has also recently stepped down from serving as Mayor of Mexia, due to relocating outside of the city limits. Leaving behind the many years of service and experience on Council and as Mayor was one of the most difficult decisions he has ever had to make.

While not serving his community, Chunky enjoys outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and tending to his cows & horses.

Corlis Calvin, Vice President

Education and other credentials: Certificate of Computer Technology, Control Data Institute; hours toward a degree in Business Management at Eastfield College; and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management at Western Governor’s University.

Corlis is currently employed at Vyve Broadband in Mexia as the Regional Customer Service Manager. She was previously employed at Time Warner Cable in Austin Texas for 24 years. Corlis has held management positions in various departments including Customer Service, Technical Support, Collections, and Dispatch.

Ms. Calvin is a member of the Bethsaida Missionary Baptist Church in Mexia where she is active in the choir, First Generation Discipleship Team, Women’s Ministry, Nursing Home Ministry, and Site Lead for the Mobile Food Pantry Team. Corlis is also a member of the Mexia City Council’s Parks Committee.

Corlis was not born in Mexia, but has family ties in the area. After spending more time with her late aunt, Mrs. Mary Shelby, she began to see first-hand what civic pride, dedication, and loyalty was about. It is in her honor that she humbly serves on the Board and tries to do her best to represent her aunt well in the city that she loved so much. In her spare time, Corlis loves to sing, and often performs professionally at special functions. She also enjoys watching movies and collecting unicorns.

Kim Story, Secretary-Treasurer

Education and other credentials: Navarro College, Texas A&M Commerce, Real Estate Brokerage, Champions School of Real Estate, Real Estate & Brokerage Management

Kim previously worked as the Executive Secretary to the Assistant Principal at Mexia High School for 13 years before beginning her real estate career. After seven years working as a real estate sales person and Realtor, Mrs. Story opened Story Real Estate where she still serves as the Owner, Broker, and Realtor. She has also been Co-Owner and Manager of Story Ranch, Land, & Cattle alongside her husband of 37 years.

Kim is involved in the community through various groups and organizations such as First Baptist Church Mexia, Mexia Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Central Texas Youth Rodeo Association.

God and her family are the most important things in Kim’s life. Along with spending time with her 4 children and 14 grandchildren, she enjoys running barrels, training horses, and ranching.

James Wiley, Director

Education and other credentials: Texas State Technical College, Mechanic

Prior to starting his own business, Wiley’s Mobile A.C., James worked for a coal mine for almost 30 years.

James is an active member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Mexia.
